Israel awareness continued this week at Frisch when two alumni in the IDF came to speak to students about their experiences thus far.
On Tuesday, Dotan Rand ’15, who is currently receiving training for serving in the IDF, spoke to seniors in Dr. Book’s class about her change of heart and change of plans – from being set on attending a U.S. college to entering the Israeli army. (Her talk was covered here in The Jewish Link.) Dotan is on a visit home to her family in Fair Lawn, NJ, before returning to Israel and being officially drafted into the IDF in late December, when she will become an artillery instructor.
Yae Ledner ’15 spoke to seniors later in the week. Yael is currently serving in a combat unit in the IDF. She is visiting her family on a brief furlough which she is entitled to as a lone soldier. Yael explained to the students why she took the “road less travelled” and shared with them moving and humorous antidotes of army life. Most poignantly, she reminded the students that being in Israel in the army during the current wave of terror reminds her what she is fighting for, and she explained that now, more than ever, she feels the unity of the Jewish people both in Israel and worldwide.
We are deeply proud of our alumni and their decision to defend our homeland and keep it safe for us and for our future generations. We wish them both much success and safety as they serve Israel and the entire Jewish people.
