Frisch students took home three awards from the Yeshiva Model Congress, held on March 6, at HAFTR. First place award for Best Overall Delegate went to Frisch junior Shmuel Berman. Berman was on the Model Congress Crisis Committee, which was tasked with dealing with three different hypothetical topics, from how to respond to a particular overseas natural disaster to how to contain a non-allied country that is weaponizing the moon.
“It was really exciting,” said Berman. “You can’t know what’s going to happen beforehand; on the spot you have to research. [The Crisis Committee] is the only committee where you’re allowed to use your laptops and phones, and you have to research based on what they tell you and what other delegates say. I got to think about things in a political sense that I had never thought of before.”
In addition to Berman’s win, Frisch students Zachary Wolf placed second in his Small Business Committee and Joshua Gershfield placed third in the Agricultural Committee. Twelve of the Frisch delegates’ bills were passed in total. Anthony Di Bartolo, a member of Frisch’s History and French departments, serves as faculty adviser for Frisch’s Model Congress Club.
“My favorite part of Model Congress was meeting kids from different schools from all over the area,” said Wolf, a sophomore.
